A K-drama said to be the 2nd “Lovely Runner”

“My Dearest Nemesis” is currently one of the most popular romance dramas on Korean television. Airing in the Monday-Tuesday time slot, after just one week on air, “My Dearest Nemesis” is already being predicted to become tvN’s second “Lovely Runner” (another romance drama that aired in the Mon-Tue timeslot). In particular, “My Dearest Nemesis” is achieving remarkable success, helping revive tvN after the massive crisis caused by the 50-billion-won (approx. 34.8 million USD) flop “When the Stars Gossip.”

Specifically, after just three episodes, “My Dearest Nemesis” has helped tvN set an unprecedented record in its history. The drama has attracted over 62 million views on the network’s social media platforms for its cuts. This is the first time a Monday-Tuesday tvN drama has achieved such a milestone. In other words, “My Dearest Nemesis” has even surpassed “Lovely Runner” in one aspect, despite having aired only 3 episodes.

With its witty premise centered on “first love turned embarrassing history” and its vibrant directing style, “My Dearest Nemesis” has captivated audiences. In fact, the K-drama had already become the talk of town in the past as a kissing photo of lead actors Moon Ga-young and Choi Hyun-wook was leaked.

Shining Leading Actors

Additionally, Choi Hyun-wook and Moon Ga-young, who play the lead couple in “My Dearest Nemesis”, have also drawn significant attention.

In particular, assuming the role of female lead Baek Soo-jung, Moon Ga-young has gone viral on social media with a scene where she donned an off-shoulder, form-fitting dress. As this character is more often decked in modest office attire, her “fashion transformation” was a crucial development. With such an appearance, Moon Ga-young continues to cement her position as top beauty in Korea, with a flawlessly proportioned figure and jaw-dropping visuals.

Meanwhile, Choi Hyun-wook, who plays male lead Ban Ju-yeon, seamlessly shifts between a meticulous executive and his secret “otaku” alter ego, exuding an irresistible charm as a younger male lead. With this return, the actor seems to have successfully overcome his “self exposed nudity” scandal that was once a hot topic.

Original Author Reaction

Adding to the buzz, original webtoon creator Yang Hye-jin has expressed immense excitement over the drama adaptation. She shared, “While watching the premiere, I couldn’t help but scream out loud because they recreated the emotions and scenes from the original so perfectly. The way they captured ‘My Dearest Nemesis’’s unique charm was spot on, and I completely lost track of time watching.”

She further commented, “From Episode 2 onward, it’s fascinating to see Soo-jung and Ju-yeon in their 30s, experiencing a parallel-world version of their past. As a viewer, it’s incredibly engaging and fun. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the director, writer, entire production team, and actors for bringing Soo-jung and Ju-yeon to life. I’ll be tuning in until the final episode with excitement!”

On the other hand, “My Dearest Nemesis” is an office romance featuring Baek Soo-jung, a team leader who suffers from the scars of her first love, now a cringeworthy memory, and Ban Joo-yeon, a third-generation chaebol who hides his inner otaku persona, the “Black Dragon.” Having met as online gaming friends in their youth, their relationship ended on the worst possible terms. Years later, fate reunites them in the workplace, setting the stage for a heartwarming story of rekindled first love.
